What would you do if.. you can regain your youth back again? Would you take the chance or just pass it by? This is the story of a couple who encounter such chance. ~~~~~~~~~*~~~~~~~~~~~ Many Hyuls ago, there was a couple lived deep inside the woods of wilderness. The two came from wealthy families in the big cities, however, the ancestors of the families had some discontented past. Maybe it was fate or punishment from the Gods, the two fell deeply in love and secretly married each other. When this secret was discovered, the elders of the families were furious and expelled the young lovers from their clans. Sadness stroked them hard and fast, but there was no time for them to rest. Some of the rebellious members of the family came after the two lovers for blood. The two finally escaped to the wilderness woods, where none of the clan members could find them. For many Hyuls they had some peace and happiness, the husband became a woodcutter and the wife helped in the near by village's seamstress. It seems as though they can live on forever, but time does catch on a person. The husband, once a boy, had already shown grays in his hair and his strength began to leave him slowly. The wife had also started to have wrinkles on her beautiful face. She often complained, "If I can ever have my youthful self back, I'd sell my soul!" The husband consoled, "you will always look ever so beautiful in my eyes, never mind those silly things." One morning, before the husband made his usual trip to the woods, the wife was feeling quite anxious and told him to be more careful on the way. When the husband made about half way to his usual tree grove, a tiger leaped out of nowhere and growled ferociously at him. Shocked by this gigantic animal before him, the poor woodcutter could only throw everything that he had at it and started to run aimlessly into other part of the woods. Maybe it was just a lucky attempt, one of the axe hit directly in the eyes of the tiger, it soon gave up the chase after the woodcutter. When the husband finally calmed himself down, he realized he was in a place he had never been before, the trees were much taller, greener and even had some sort of soothing scent emanated from them. As if enchanted by a sorceress, he walked as if he knew where he was going in the woods and finally came to a water spring. He was tired and thirsty. Upon seeing water, he hurriedly took a mouthful from the spring. Feeling refreshed and revitalized again, he started to trace his way back home. When he arrived home, his wife screamed at the sight of him, "What happened to you, my dear?! You look ten years younger than this morning!" He told his wife of the encounter with the tiger, the strange woods and the water spring. The wife exclaimed, "it must be the water spring you drink from, show me where it is!" The very next day, the woodcutter took his wife to the water spring, she took a drink and her wrinkles went away instantly. They were blissful on such mysterious gift and celebrated for days until one morning the husband woke up and find his wife missing. Vexed and fear for his wife's safety, "have they gotten to her? Must not be her family taken her away!" all these thoughts raving through his mind. After he armored himself and was about to charge out the door, he saw a note on the door. It was from his wife: "My dear love, I wish to keep my beauty and youth so I can have your love forever. I am going back to the spring again. Don't worry, I will return soon." By the time he made it to the spring water, it was all too late. He saw a baby wrapped up in his wife's clothes. The wife had taken too many drinks from the spring water and became an infant once more. With tears falling down from his cheeks, he sighed, "What would I do now without you? I only wish I never came across such spring, we had each other and that was more than enough than beauty and youth.." -kroi | |
